The main types of igneous rocks are intrusive and extrusive rocks.

One type of intrusive rock is pegmatite is a light colored and is very coarse grained. This rock often contains rear minerals not found in magma chambers, it forms near the magma chamber during the final process of magma chamber crystallization.
One type of extrusive rock is obsidian, obsidian is a dark colored volcanic glass. This rock forms from cooling of molten rock material. It cools so fast that crystals don't form.
2. Identify the two main types of metamorphic rocks. Provide examples and descriptions of each. The two types of metamorphic rocks are the foliated and non-foliated.
An example of a foliated rock is slate. This rock is formed through the metamophism of shale. This is a low grade metamorphic rock that splits into thin peices.
An example of a non-foliated rock is marble it is formed from metamophism of limestone. It is mostly composed of calcium carbonate.
3. Identify the two main types of sedimentary rocks. Provide examples and descriptions of each.
The two types of sedimentary rocks are clastic and chemical rocks.
This type of clastic sedimentary rock contains large round particles, chemical cement bonds the rock together.
Iron Ore is a type of chemical sedimentary rock. An example of iron ore is hematite (shown in the photo on the left) it is the most common of the iron ore rock.
